What You Need to Get Started

Last updated: April 5, 2026

Before You Begin

To create your defense package, you'll need a few things ready. Having these prepared will make the process quick and smooth.

Required Items

1. Your Traffic Ticket or Citation

You'll need a clear photo or scan of your traffic ticket. The ticket contains essential information we need, including:

  • The violation code (e.g., 22350 VC for speeding)
  • The date and time of the alleged violation
  • The location where it occurred
  • The court handling your case
  • Your deadline to respond (usually 60-90 days)

Tip: A smartphone photo works great! Just make sure all the text is clearly readable.

2. Your Driver's License Information

Have your driver's license handy for reference. You'll need your full legal name and license number.

3. Your Recollection of Events

Think about what happened during the traffic stop. Consider:

  • What were you doing at the time?
  • What were the road and weather conditions?
  • Were there any circumstances the officer might not have noticed?
  • Do you have any witnesses?

Optional But Helpful

Supporting Evidence

If you have any evidence that supports your case, gather it now:

  • Photos of the location or road conditions
  • Dashcam footage (screenshots or still images)
  • Witness contact information
  • Documentation of equipment (speedometer calibration, etc.)
  • Google Street View images of the location

Time Requirements

The entire process typically takes 10-15 minutes to complete. You can save your progress and return later if needed.

Important Deadlines

Make sure to check your ticket for the deadline to respond. Trial by Written Declaration requests must typically be submitted before your court date or the deadline printed on your ticket. We recommend submitting at least 2-3 weeks before your deadline to allow for mailing time.

Ready? Start fighting your ticket now!
